How to Create and Manage Subtasks in Buildern

Subtasks in Buildern help teams break larger tasks into smaller, manageable actions. This makes it easier to organize work, assign responsibilities, and track project progress. In this article, you’ll learn how to create and manage subtasks in To-Do tasks.

What Are Subtasks?

Subtasks are smaller tasks that belong to a main To-Do item. They allow teams to divide complex work into individual steps and assign them to different team members.

Using subtasks helps teams:

• Organize work more clearly

• Track progress of each step

• Assign responsibilities to different team members

• Ensure nothing is missed within larger tasks

Create a Subtask

To create a subtask in Buildern:

  1. Open the project you want to work on.

  2. Navigate to the To-Dos module from the left-side menu.

  3. Find the main To-Do task where you want to add subtasks.

  4. Open the To-Do task.

  5. Click Add Subtask.

  6. Enter the subtask name.

  7. Fill in the necessary details such as assignee, due date, or priority.

  8. Click Save.

The subtask will now appear under the main To-Do task.

Manage Subtasks

Once created, subtasks can be managed directly inside the main To-Do task.

You can:

• Edit subtask details

• Assign subtasks to team members

• Set due dates and priorities

• Mark subtasks as complete

• Track progress of each subtask

When subtasks are completed, the progress of the parent To-Do is updated automatically.

Complete a Subtask

When a subtask is finished, you can mark it as completed.

To complete a subtask, open the To-Do task, find the subtask in the list, and mark it as Complete.

Completed subtasks help teams monitor progress and ensure that every step of a task has been finished.

💡 Tip - Use subtasks when a task involves multiple steps or when different team members are responsible for completing specific parts of the work.

Organizing Work with Subtasks

Subtasks are especially helpful when managing complex activities such as construction workflows.

For example:

Main To-Do: Install Interior Drywall

Subtasks may include:

• Deliver drywall materials

• Measure wall dimensions

• Install drywall panels

• Apply joint compound

• Sand and finish surfaces

This structure helps teams track every stage of the work process.

ℹ️ Note - Subtasks are always connected to a parent To-Do task and cannot exist independently.

In the next sections, we’ll explore other Buildern capabilities designed to support your daily tasks.
