Schedule Gantt Chart Overview in Buildern

A Gantt chart is a visual project management tool that displays tasks on a timeline. This guide explains how to use the Gantt Chart view in Buildern to effectively manage your construction project schedule.

Why Use a Gantt Chart in Your Schedule?

Construction projects involve multiple phases, overlapping tasks, and strict deadlines. Without a clear visual structure, it’s easy for projects to fall behind.

A Gantt chart transforms your schedule into a visual timeline, making it easier to:

  • See how tasks are distributed over time

  • Identify overlaps and potential bottlenecks

  • Understand task relationships

  • Monitor progress against deadlines

Instead of reviewing tasks line by line, the Gantt view gives you a complete picture of your project at a glance.

Gantt Chart in Buildern

Buildern provides a user-friendly Gantt Chart interface designed specifically for construction project management.

To access the Gantt Chart:

  1. Open your project.

  2. Navigate to the Schedule module.

  3. Switch to the Gantt Chart view.

From there, you can visually manage your entire project timeline.

Key Capabilities in the Gantt Chart View

View the Critical Path

The critical path represents the longest sequence of dependent tasks that determines your project’s minimum completion time

Create Baselines

Baselines are snapshots of your schedule at a specific point in time.

How to Edit a Schedule Item in Gantt Chart View

You can edit any schedule item directly from the Gantt Chart view.

To edit a task:

  1. Go to your project.

  2. Open the Schedule module.

  3. Make sure you are in the Gantt chart view.

  4. Locate the task you want to update.

  5. Click the three dots (⋯) next to the task name.

  6. Select Edit from the dropdown menu.

ℹ️ Note:Buildern’s Gantt Chart also supports inline editing, allowing you to make quick updates without opening the full Edit window.

This will open the task editing window.

When editing a schedule item, you can configure Dependencies, which determine how tasks are connected and how one task affects another. In Buildern’s Gantt Chart, there are four dependency types available:

  • Finish-to-Start (FS)

  • Finish-to-Finish (FF)

  • Start-to-Start (SS)

  • Start-to-Finish (SF)

ℹ️ Note:You can set up a dependency once at least one task has been created in your schedule. After creating the first task, you can define a dependency for the second task by linking it to the existing one.

What You Can Edit

In the Gantt Chart view, click the three dots (⋯) next to a task to access additional task management options. These tools allow you to quickly update, organize, and manage schedule items without leaving the timeline view.

From this menu, you can.

  • View

  • Confirm the task

  • Add Predecessor

  • Notify Assignees

  • Duplicate

  • Complete

  • Add Internal Notes

  • Change Color

  • Watchers

  • Delete

  • Add Child Item

ℹ️ Note: You can also use drag-and-drop directly in the Gantt Chart to quickly adjust your schedule. Drag a task horizontally to change its start and end dates, resize the task bar to modify its duration, or drag it vertically to reorganize its position within the schedule.

After making the necessary changes, click Save to update the schedule.

💡 Tip: If the task has dependencies, changing its dates may automatically shift related tasks. Always review connected items after editing to ensure your schedule remains accurate.

Gantt Chart Toolbar and Filters

At the top of the Gantt Chart view, Buildern provides a toolbar that allows you to quickly manage, filter, and control how your schedule is displayed.

Collapse All

The Collapse all option allows you to collapse all parent tasks and hide their subtasks. This is useful when working with large schedules and needing a simplified overview.

Search

Use the Search bar to quickly locate a specific task by name. This helps navigate complex schedules efficiently.

Filters

You can filter tasks by:

  • Assignee – View tasks assigned to specific team members

  • Label – Filter tasks based on applied labels

  • Status – Display tasks by their current status

Filters help you focus on specific parts of the schedule without affecting the overall structure.

Timeline Controls

On the right side of the toolbar, use Today to jump to the current date, or select another date to view it on the timeline.

Export Options

Click the Download icon to export your schedule in different formats:

  • Download List PDF – Exports the schedule in list format as a PDF.

  • Download Gantt PDF – Exports the visual Gantt timeline as a PDF.

  • Download List Excel – Exports the schedule list as an Excel file for further editing or reporting.

Column Visibility and Layout

Click the Column/Layout icon (three vertical bars) to customize which columns are displayed in the schedule grid.

From this panel, you can:

  • Search for specific fields

  • Select or deselect columns (ID, Name, Description, Start Date, End Date, Completion %, Dependencies, Assignees, etc.)

  • Reorder columns as needed

  • Deselect all columns for a clean reset

Schedule Settings

The Schedule settings option (accessible from the three-dot menu in the top-right corner) allows for additional configuration of your scheduling environment.
