How to Edit Estimate Items in Buildern

Buildern allows you to easily update estimate items as project requirements change. In this guide, you will learn how to edit, duplicate, and manage estimate items in Buildern.


Access the Estimates Module

To edit estimate items:

  1. Open the project you want to work on.

  2. Navigate to the Estimates module from the left-side menu.

From here, you can view all estimate groups and items created for the project.


Edit an Estimate Item

Once an estimate item is created, you can edit and manage it at any time using the action menu.

To edit an existing estimate item:

  1. Locate the estimate item you want to modify.

  2. Click the three-dot menu (⋯) in the Actions column.

This menu provides several options that allow you to modify item details, create additional items or subgroups, duplicate entries, copy items to other locations, and remove items.

The dropdown menu includes the following options:

  • Edit

  • View

  • Duplicate

  • Copy to

  • Create

  • Add To

  • Delete

ℹ️ Note - Editing estimate items will automatically update the total estimate value, ensuring the project budget reflects the latest changes.


Menu Options Explained

1. Edit - Opens the item so you can update its details such as quantity, pricing, description, and visibility.

2. View - Allows you to view item details without making changes.

ℹ️ Note - You can Edit item details from the view page clicking on the Pencil button on the top right corner.

3. Duplicate - Creates a copy of the selected item or group.

💡 Tip - Duplicating items is useful when working with similar materials, labor tasks, or equipment costs, as it reduces repetitive data entry.

4. Copy To - Copies the item to another project or template.

💡 Tip - Copying estimate items to templates can help standardize commonly used estimate structures across future projects.

5. Create - Allows you to generate related project records from the item.

Available options may include:

  • Bid Request

  • Purchase Order

  • Subcontract

  • Bill

  • Schedule

  • Submittal

ℹ️ Note - The available options may vary depending on the type of estimate item and the project configuration.

6. Add To - Links the item to existing project records.

Available options may include:

  • Bid Request

  • Purchase Order

  • Subcontract

  • Bill

  • Cost Catalog

💡 Tip - Adding estimate items directly to Purchase Orders, Bills, or Subcontracts helps maintain consistency between your estimate and financial documents.

7. Delete - Removes the item from the estimate.

ℹ️ Note - Deleting estimate items will affect the total project cost, as the item will no longer be included in the estimate calculations.


Edit Items Directly in the Estimate Table

Buildern also supports inline editing, allowing you to update certain fields directly within the estimate table without opening the Actions menu.

Simply click on the field you want to modify - such as status, description, notes, visible in proposal and etc. - enter the new value, and the estimate will update automatically.


Edit A Group

Allows you to modify the selected estimate group.

Once the edit window opens, you can update any of the available fields such as:

  • Name

  • Parent Group

  • Description

  • Status

  • Proposal visibility

  • Pricing details

After making the necessary changes, click Save. The estimate will automatically update with the new information.


Edit an Assembly

Assemblies can be edited similarly to other estimate items, but include additional configuration such as cost lines.

To edit an assembly:

  1. Locate the assembly in your estimate

  2. Click the three-dot menu (⋯)

  3. Select Edit

You can update basic details such as name, group, quantity, and description, as well as modify cost lines within the assembly.
