How to Configure Selection Pricing in Buildern

Buildern allows you to control how selection options are presented to clients how many options clients can select. In this article, you'll learn how to configure pricing, quantities, unit types, and client selection settings for a selection.

📋 Requirements

Before you begin, make sure:

  • You have access to a project

  • A selection has already been created

  • At least one option has been added to the selection

Configure Selection Pricing

When creating or editing a selection, locate the Pricing field in the selection details.Pricing controls whether the client can see pricing information for the available options.

Enable Pricing when the selection is tied to an allowance and clients need to compare options based on cost.

When pricing is enabled, you can configure pricing-related fields such as:

  • Quantity

  • Unit Type

  • Pricing calculations

  • Cost-related option details

This is commonly used for allowance-based selections where clients compare options with different costs.

Disable Pricing if you do not want clients to see pricing information.

This is useful for selections such as:

  • Paint colors

  • Flooring styles

  • Fixtures

  • Finishes

  • Design preferences

When pricing is disabled, clients focus on the product details rather than cost.

ℹ️ Note - Pricing is automatically disabled for selections created from standard estimate items and cannot be modified. Pricing is only available for selections created from allowance items.

Configure Quantity

The Quantity field defines the quantity associated with the selection option.

You can:

  • Enter a quantity manually

  • Use measurements from the estimate

  • Create formulas for automatic calculations

Click How to use Quantity field to view Buildern's quantity calculation tools.

💡 Tip - Quantity calculations can use Takeoff measurements directly. This allows Buildern to automatically calculate material quantities, pricing, and allowances based on measured project dimensions.

Use Measurements

Click the Measurements icon to reference measurements from the estimate.

From here, you can:

  • Select existing measurements

  • Add measurements manually

  • Create measurements in Takeoff using Add in Takeoff

Measurements can then be used directly within quantity calculations.

Use Formulas

Click the Calculator icon to open the formula builder.

Formulas allow you to automatically calculate quantities using measurements and mathematical expressions.

For example:

ROUND({Floor Area} * 1.1 / 2)

This can be used to automatically calculate material quantities while accounting for waste factors or installation requirements.

Configure Unit Type

The Unit Type field defines the unit used for quantity calculations and pricing. You can use the dropdown to choose the needed unit.

If the required unit does not exist, click Add New to create a custom unit type.

Here you need to enter a name for the unit and it will be saved to be used in the future as well.

Configure Client Selection Rules

The Selection Type setting determines how many options a client can choose.

Available options include:

1) Client can select single option

Allows the client to choose only one option from the selection.

Common examples:

  • Flooring type

  • Paint color

  • Countertop material

  • Appliance package

2) Client can select multiple options

Allows the client to choose multiple options within the same selection.

Common examples:

  • Upgrade packages

  • Additional accessories

  • Hardware selections

  • Optional project add-ons

Choose the option that best matches the intended client workflow before publishing the selection.

Save the Selection

Once you have configured the pricing, quantity, unit type, and client selection settings:

  1. Add the required selection options.

  2. Review the selection details.

  3. Click Save or Publish.

The selection will then be available for client review according to the settings you configured.

With this feature in place, managing your workflow becomes even easier.

Happy building!
