How to Edit a Change Order / Variation in Buildern

Buildern allows you to edit Change Orders/ Variations as project requirements change. In this article, you'll learn how to edit a Change Order/ Variation, update its details and cost lines, and understand how changes affect approvals.


Edit a Change Order

To edit a Change Order:

  1. Navigate to All Items > Change Orders, or open a specific project and go to the Change Orders module.

  2. Locate the Change Order you want to modify.

  3. Click the three-dot menu at the end of the Change Order row.

  4. Select Edit.

The Change Order editor will open, allowing you to update its details.

When editing a Change Order / Variation, you can update the following fields:

  • Title - The name of the Change Order / Variation. (The ID is assigned automatically and cannot be changed.)

  • Approval Deadline - Sets the due date for client or subcontractor approval.

  • Days Change - Defines how the project timeline is affected, if applicable.

  • Introduction Text - A short description or summary for the client.

  • Cost Lines - Financial breakdown including materials, labor, quantities, unit cost, and markup.

  • Attachments - Upload supporting files such as documents, drawings, or images.

  • Closing Text - Final notes or instructions for the client.

  • Terms and Conditions - Add contractual or legal terms related to the Change Order / Variation.

  • Comments - Add comments for discussion and collaboration within the Change Order / Variation.

ℹ️ Note - All fields listed above can be updated while editing a Change Order / Variation, depending on its status and permissions. Any changes will be reflected in the updated version once saved.

Once all updates are complete, click Save or Resend/ Update to apply the changes and notify relevant parties.
