How to Create and Work with Assemblies in Estimates

Assemblies in Buildern allow you to group multiple estimate items into a single structure. In this article, you will learn how to create Assemblies in Buildern and use them to combine multiple cost items into reusable structures.

Create an Assembly

Assemblies are useful when working with repeated scopes of work that include materials, labor, and other costs.

Basic Information

  • Name – A clear name for the assembly

  • Group (optional) – Assign the assembly to a group

  • Quantity – Measurement that is then used to calculate the items added to this assembly

  • Unit type – Measurement unit

  • Status – Track progress (e.g., Incomplete)

  • Description – Additional details about the work included

Add Cost Lines

Assemblies are built using cost lines, which represent the individual items inside the assembly.

To add cost lines:

  1. Click Add Item in the Cost Lines section

  2. Select the item type (Material, Labor, Equipment, etc.)

  3. Configure each item as needed

You can also click Add new line and a new row will appear in the table.

πŸ’‘ Tip - You can type directly into the row without opening a separate window, making it faster to add multiple items.

Use Measurements

You can assign measurements to cost lines for more accurate quantity calculations.

To use measurements:

  1. Click the Measurements icon

  2. Select an existing measurement or choose:

    • Add manual measurement

    • Add in Takeoff

Configure Columns

You can customize which columns are visible in the cost lines table.

  1. Click the Columns icon (right side of the table)

  2. Select or deselect the fields you want to display

Inline Editing

  • You can edit cost lines directly in the table

  • Click on any field (e.g., Name, Quantity, Unit cost) to update it
