🎯Basics First: What Is a Critical Path?
The Critical Path is the sequence of dependent tasks that determines the shortest possible time required to complete a project.
In simple terms:
If any task on the critical path is delayed, the entire project will be delayed.
These tasks have no scheduling flexibility (no float) — which makes them the highest priority when managing deadlines.
How to Use the Critical Path in Buildern
The Critical Path feature is available in the Gantt Chart view of the Schedule module.
Step 1: Open the Gantt Chart
Log in to your Buildern account.
Open your project.
Navigate to the Schedule → Gantt Chart view.
Step 2: Enable Critical Path View
Click the Critical Path icon in the Gantt Chart toolbar.
Buildern will instantly highlight the critical sequence of tasks.
You will notice:
Critical tasks highlighted in red
Dependencies forming the longest project path also marked in red
This visual cue helps you immediately understand which activities are driving your project timeline.
ℹ️ Note: The accuracy of the Critical Path depends on properly configured task dependencies. Make sure your tasks are logically linked for meaningful analysis.
Step 3: Disable Critical Path View
Click the same icon again to return to the standard Gantt view.
When Should You Use It?
Critical Path is especially useful when:
You are adjusting task durations
You are modifying dependencies
You need to recover from delays
You want to analyze schedule risks before sharing timelines with clients
💡 Tip: Regularly reviewing the critical path ensures that key tasks stay on track and prevents unexpected project delays.
In the next guides, we’ll uncover more Buildern functionality to help you fine-tune your workflows.
Happy Building!
