How to Import Schedule Items From Buildertrend

Buildern lets you easily transfer your schedule data from Buildertrend so you can keep managing projects without rebuilding schedules manually. In this article, you’ll learn how to export schedules from Buildertrend and import them into Buildern.

Before you begin, make sure:

  • You have access to your Buildertrend account

  • Your project schedule is already created in Buildertrend

  • You have access to the target project in Buildern

Why Import Schedules from Buildertrend?

Buildertrend users often need to move data when switching platforms or managing multiple tools. Buildern supports a dedicated import option for Buildertrend schedules, making the transition straightforward. The process involves exporting your data as an Excel file from Buildertrend and then uploading it into Buildern, where the system handles most of the mapping automatically.


Import Schedule from Buildertrend

Step 1: Access the Import Option

To begin importing:

  1. Open your project in Buildern.

  2. Click the Import button.

  3. Select Import from Buildertrend.

Then you will see instructions how to import Schedule from Buildertrend:

Follow these steps to download your schedule file: open Buildertrend and select your project. Then navigate to the Schedule section, switch to the List tab, and click on More Actions.

Then, select Export to Excel and wait for the file to download.

Upload your file in the opened window in Buildern.You now have a compatible Excel file containing your schedule items, including tasks, dates, durations, and other relevant details.

💡Tip - If your schedule contains a large number of items, review Buildertrend's export limits - typically up to 500 scheduled items - to ensure everything transfers smoothly.

Step 2: Configure Columns

After uploading, Buildern will display a preview of the imported data.You can review and adjust column mappings if needed (e.g., matching "Task Name," "Start Date," "End Date," or dependencies to Buildern's fields).

This step is optional - Buildern automatically detects and maps the standard Buildertrend schedule columns for you in most cases.


After Import: What to Expect

  • Your schedule items will now appear in Buildern's Schedule view.

  • You can immediately start managing tasks, dependencies, Gantt charts, or resource assignments using Buildern's tools.

  • Any custom fields or notes from Buildertrend should transfer over, though you may want to double-check critical dates or relationships
