How to Import Estimate Items in Buildern

Buildern allows you to import estimate items instead of creating them manually. This helps save time and ensures consistency when working with large estimates. In this article, you will learn how to import estimate items into Buildern.



Access the Estimates Module

To import estimate items:

  1. Open the project you want to work on.

  2. Navigate to the Estimates module from the left-side menu.

From here, you can manage and import estimate items for your project.


Import Estimate Items

To start importing:

  1. Click the Import button.

  2. Select one of the available options.

Buildern provides the following import methods:

Import from File (Excel / CSV)

You can import estimate items using a prepared file.

To import from Excel or CSV:

  1. Click Import β†’ Import

  2. Choose Excel opion

3. Click Upload

After uploading your file, Buildern will open the Import Estimate window, where you can review and map your data before completing the import.

In this window, you will see:

  • A preview of your uploaded file, including all estimate items

  • Columns such as Name, Cost Type, Group, Quantity, Unit, Unit Cost, Markup, and Description

  • Dropdowns at the top of each column to map your file columns to the correct Buildern fields.

To complete this step:

  1. Review the imported data to ensure everything is correct.

  2. Match each column to the appropriate Buildern field using the dropdowns.

  3. Adjust settings such as Tax included / Tax excluded if needed.

4. Click Continue to finalize the import.

πŸ’‘ Tip - Make sure all required fields (such as Name and Cost Type) are correctly mapped before proceeding. Incorrect mapping may result in missing or inaccurate data.


Copy from Another Project or Template

Buildern also allows you to reuse existing estimate items.

To import from another project or template:

  1. Click Import β†’ Copy from.

  2. Select the source project or template..

  3. Choose the estimate version you want to copy.

You can also configure additional options:

  • Also copy selections - Includes selection items along with estimate items

  • Set all quantities 0 - Resets quantities for all imported items

  • Don’t reset Takeoff Measurements values - Keeps existing takeoff values

  • Copy assignees - Transfers assigned team members to the new estimate

4. Click Copy to complete the process.

ℹ️ Note - Copying from another project preserves the estimate structure, including groups, items, and assemblies.


Generate from Cost Codes

Buildern also allows you to generate estimate items based on predefined cost codes.

To generate items:

  1. Click Import β†’ Generate from Cost Codes.

  2. Select the cost codes you want to use.

  3. Buildern will automatically create estimate items based on those codes.

What Happens After Import

Once the import is completed:

  • Estimate items will appear in your estimate

  • The structure (groups, assemblies, etc.) will be preserved

  • You can edit or reorganize items as needed
